The speed limiter regime, which requires lorries to be installed with speed limiters to cap their speed at 60km/h, has now been expanded to include lorries with a Maximum Laden Weight (MLW) of between 3,501kg and 12,000kg (inclusive).
Installation of speed limiters has begun on 1 January 2024. Lorry owners are required to comply with the installation deadlines as follows:
Older models (registered before 1 Jan 2018)
5,001kg – 12,000kg: 1 January 2026
3,501kg – 5,000kg: 1 July 2026
Newer models (registered from 1 Jan 2018)
5,001kg – 12,000kg: 1 January 2027
3,501kg – 5,000kg: 1 July 2027

Note: If lorries with MLW between 3,501kg and 12,000kg are not fitted with a speed limiter by the dates stipulated, lorry owners will be penalised. Lorry owners are strongly encouraged to install speed limiters in their lorries early to avoid delays due to pent-up demand.
